NOx sensors are UK’s most common HGV warranty repair

Warranty Solutions Group (WSG) has revealed the most common heavy goods vehicle (HGV) warranty repairs in the UK, based on its analysis of almost 2,500 authorised HGV warranty claims dating back to July 2021.

NOx sensors represented 14.08 per cent of all repairs, making it the most common HGV warranty repair in the UK – a market which historically shares similar trends to Ireland.

Turbochargers were the second most common claim at 4.85 per cent, followed by engine ECUs (4.22 per cent), AdBlue pumps (2.97 per cent), water pumps (2.13 per cent) and camshafts (2.05 per cent).

EGR valves, alternators, brake chambers, radiators, brake APM units, starter motors, ABS wheel speed sensors and air compressors also featured on WSG’s common repair list.

Across the full dataset, the average HGV warranty repair was recorded at £1,558.50, with an average labour cost of £220.11 per claim and an average labour rate of £68.14 per hour.

Dennis Brett, claims director at Warranty Solutions Group, said: “One of the biggest misconceptions is that the highest repair bill represents the biggest reliability issue. In reality, it’s often the faults that occur repeatedly across thousands of vehicles that have the greatest commercial impact.

“A repair costing several hundred pounds but occurring time and time again across a fleet can ultimately have a greater financial impact than the occasional catastrophic engine failure.

“By analysing almost 2,500 authorised HGV warranty claims over five years, we’re able to identify patterns that simply aren’t visible from individual repairs. Claims intelligence gives us a unique understanding of how truck reliability is evolving and where operators are facing the greatest maintenance challenges.”
