Gardaí trialling electric Kia PV5

An Garda Síochána has put its first fully-electric van into service, having took delivery of a new Kia PV5 as part of a new operational trial.

The PV5 is equipped with seating for four Gardaí and secure prisoner accommodation in the rear.

An Garda Síochána said the Kia PV5 will be trialled in a busy city centre environment and will be supported by the existing public charging infrastructure.

Its fleet management team will gather data on operational performance and range, reliability in daily policing scenarios and suitability for wider future deployment across the organisation.

“This trial represents a practical step forward in our commitment to exploring innovative, eco-friendly solutions while continuing to protect and support our communities,” said a Garda spokesperson.
