SDC Trailers explains what EN 12642-XL certification means

In March 2012, SDC Trailers became the first UK trailer manufacturer to achieve EN 12642-XL certification for both 13.6m and 15.65m Curtainsiders – setting a new benchmark for the industry.

Trailers built to this standard undergo rigorous, independent static or dynamic testing to ensure the body structure meets reinforced strength requirements.

For hauliers, EN 12642-XL certification can offer practical benefits, especially when securing loads using the ‘positive fit’ method, or alongside a load restraint system.

This European standard confirms that the trailer’s structure, including the roof, headboard, rear doors, and curtains, can withstand specific forces without additional restraints, provided the load is packed tightly with minimal gaps.
