New Irish commercial vehicle sales growing rapidly
European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (ACEA) October figures for commercial vehicle registrations indicate excellent growth with the Irish market posting strong results compared to 2013.
In Ireland, the LCV market is up by 50.63 per cent for this year to date over the first 10 months of 2013 and the HCV market is up 22.51 per cent for a similar comparative period. Overall CV demand was also up 27.1% in the UK, compared with October 2013, and up 13.9% over the first 10 months of 2014 compared to last year.
Four of the five major markets in Europe, including UK, posted positive registration figures for October. Spain and Italy also recorded double-digit growth, 41.2% and 16.3% respectively and Germany saw steady figures of around 9.6%. France saw a decrease of 6.4% on the same month in 2013.
The light commercial vehicle, up to 3.5 tonnes, market continued to post strong figures. The Irish market is up a massive 78.85 per cent. The UK had a buoyant month too with an 18.2% increase in registrations over October 2013, while Spain, Italy and Germany all posted increases by 40.2pc, 18.6pc and 10.9pc respectively.
Registration figures for commercial vehicles between 3.5 and 16 tonnes saw the UK post its largest growth in October 2013, of 67.9 per cent, outperforming the other large European nations in this sector. Spain, Italy and Germany all posted increases of 48.1pc, 9pc and 7.3pc respectively, although France saw a decrease of 20.4pc.
The above 16 tonne truck sector also grew in October, compared to the same month in 2013, by 10.3% as 26,691 truck registrations were made in total. Italy and Germany performed steadily in October, with increases of 12.1% and 15.4% respectively, while the UK and Spain posted large increases by 61.9% and 48.1 compared to October 2013.
Overall Ireland has recorded a increase of 11.6 per cent. this October over the same month in 2013 for all heavy commercials. And for the first ten months of this year, the Irish HCV market is showing an increase 22.51 per cent over the first 10 months of last year.
Elsewhere, the UK was also the only nation out of the five largest European nations to post positive figures in the bus and coach sector for October with a 24.9% increase on the same month in 2013. Meanwhile Spain, Italy, France and Germany registered decreases of 5.3%, 38.3%, 18.3% and 6.9% respectively
