Volvo and Wrightbus get the Go Ahead for new order

Ballymena based bus builder Wrightbus and Volvo have won an order to supply 38 hybrid double-deck buses to Go Ahead London.

The new buses are Volvo B5LH Euro-6 hybrids with Wrightbus Gemini 3 bodywork. The first vehicle was handed over at the Coach and Bus Live exhibition on 30 September.

The Volvo B5LH diesel hybrid driveline delivers a claimed fuel and CO2 reduction of around 39% compared to the conventional equivalent, without compromising reliability. Everything in the driver’’s area is set for superior ergonomics.

The Wrightbus Gemini 3 is the latest generation of the company’s chassis/body combination, and Wrightbus has worked to incorporate new features arising from customer feedback. These include improved airflow throughout both decks, along with reduced solar gain in the upper deck.

““We particularly like the new Wrightbus Gemini 3 styling, which is the first two-door 10.6m vehicle built to TfL specifications to enter operation in London. The new design gives drivers improved visibility with its wrap-around screen, combined with an enhanced signalling window.

““These new hybrid vehicles meet all the operational requirements of London bus routes and offer some of the cleanest emissions standards in the world. It is particularly good to have TfL-specified hybrid buses operating in outer London and means passengers from the suburbs can experience this new technology.””
