Kogel Trailer wins VR Innovation Award for sustainable refrigerated vehicle
We recently reported that Kogel Trailer GmbH had entered an exclusive sales partnership with Dublin-based Horizon Trailers, to exclusively distribute Kogel’s premium trailers in Ireland and the UK.
Now, Kogel Trailer GmbH has been awarded with the ‘VR Innovation Award’ in the Environmental Protection category for its innovative refrigerated vehicle, the Kogel Cool Liteshell.
The award ceremony took place yesterday at the Allianz Arena in Munich. Christian Renners, CEO of Kogel Trailer GmbH, and Thore Bakker, CSO of the company, accepted the award from Gerhard Grünig, editor-in-chief of the industry magazine VerkehrsRundschau.
The VR Innovation Award honours pioneering projects that contribute to the reduction of CO₂ emissions, with Kogel said to have impressed the jury with its Kogel Cool Liteshell.
First presented at the IAA 2024, this new refrigerated trailer is characterised by a significant weight reduction. Thanks to innovative panels manufactured without the conventional steel layer, the tare weight of the trailer is reduced by approximately 700kg compared to the industry average. This results in lower fuel consumption, an extended range, and reduced CO₂ emissions.
The reduced vehicle weight enables fuel savings of 300ml per 100km and a CO₂ reduction of eight grams per km. Over an annual mileage of 150,000km, Kogel claims this equates to a CO₂ savings of 1.2 tons.
Additionally, at full capacity, every 32nd trip can be eliminated. The durable TPU exterior shell of the panels reduces repair costs and eliminates the need for painting, further enhancing economic efficiency.
Christian Renners, CEO of Kögel Trailer GmbH, said: “We are proud to have won the VerkehrsRundschau Innovation Award. This award confirms that we are on the right track with our sustainable product development.”
The Kogel Cool Liteshell is currently in its pre-series phase.
