New grants for EV infrastructure and business support

Two new initiatives have been announced today by Minister for Transport Darragh O’Brien, aimed at accelerating Ireland’s transition to a zero-emission future.

According to the Minister, these initiatives will significantly expand the national electric vehicle recharging network and provide enhanced support for businesses adopting electric heavy-duty vehicles.

ZEVI-TII EV Recharging Infrastructure LDV National Road Grant Scheme (Phase 3)
Applications are now open for Phase 3 of this scheme, which focuses on installing high-powered recharging stations along 3,000km of national primary and secondary roads. This phase aims to ensure that EV drivers have reliable access to charging points across the country. Key features include:

Targeted Locations: Public recharging facilities within 3km of national roads, including petrol stations, car parks, and supermarkets.
Funding: Investments in high-powered EV recharging pools.
Rapid Roll-out: Accelerated delivery of widespread recharging infrastructure.

ZEHDV Purchase Grant Scheme Expansion
To support the decarbonisation of Ireland’s freight and logistics sector, the ZEHDV Purchase Grant Scheme has been expanded. This includes grants for depot and logistics recharging infrastructure, allowing businesses to access funding for recharging stations at depots, logistics hubs, and commercial premises. The scheme is open to all businesses, including those that do not currently own a ZEHDV.

Minister O’Brien remarked: “By supporting both vehicle purchases and the necessary charging infrastructure, we’re enabling businesses to decarbonise efficiently. These initiatives mark a significant step forward in Ireland’s commitment to a sustainable, zero-emission transport network—providing drivers and businesses with the support they need to embrace a cleaner future.”
