Mixed bag for January commercial vehicles sales

Figures released today by the Society of the Irish Motor Industry (SIMI) show that heavy goods vehicles (HGV) and bus and coach sales are up in January 2025 compared to the same month last year, while light Commercial vehicle (LCV) sales decreased in the first month of 2025.

According to SIMI, LCV sales are down 16 per cent (6,270) compared to January last year (7,478).

HGV registrations are showing an increase of eight per cent (489) in comparison to January 2024 (454).

New bus and coach sales for January 2025 totalled 76, a four per cent jump on 2024 (73).

Ford sold 1,678 new LCVs in January 2025, ahead of Renault (950), Volkswagen (785), Opel (557) and Peugeot (453).

The Renault Trafic was the best-selling van last month in Ireland, with 554 units sold.

Pick-up sales almost doubled in January 2025, with 420 sold compared to 230 in January 2024.
