Shell opens its first charging station for electric trucks in UK

Shell has opened its first public charging station for electric trucks in the UK. The site – which Shell acquired in 2022 – is situated along the A1 in Nottinghamshire, and is passed by more than 8,000 HGVs a day.

It features a 400kWh fast charging station, with two connectors, powered using 100 per cent renewable electricity, and which enables two vehicles to charge at once.

Shell has also introduced a book and charge system that allows fleet managers to secure charging bays in advance, allowing fleets to guarantee the availability of chargers and to reliably plan and schedule stops, reducing driver downtime.

The charge points are integrated with the Shell Recharge app that allows customers to monitor and manage charging sessions in real-time.

Drivers can also use a single Shell Card for all their refuelling and charging needs, simplifying payments.

While their trucks charge, drivers can use amenities including a café, 24/7 toilets, showers, and guarded parking.
