Continental adds new timing belt kit for Ford engines
Continental has added the CT1257K1 timing belt kit to its range, which is now available and has been specially developed for the demands of the Ford 2.0 EcoBlue engine.
This engine can be found under the bonnet of the Ford Transit van and in many of the larger car models from Ford, such as the S-Max and Tourneo.
Continental says this kit contains all other necessary components, such as a tensioner pulley, as well as the small parts and bolts needed for fitting. The kit is additionally available in a PRO version for some models, and this also includes a second, smaller belt for driving the oil pump.
“The CT1257 belt has been purpose developed for the specific operating demands of this engine, and those demands are significant,” said Robert Franz, senior product manager EMEA at Continental.
“The Ford 2.0 EcoBlue features belt-in-oil technology, meaning its timing belt runs in an oil bath. This reduces frictional losses, which has a positive effect on fuel consumption and noise levels.
“However, if a belt has not been specially optimised for such applications, even the tiniest impurities in the oil – such as soot particles or crystalline compounds – can cause parts of the belt to break away and possibly damage the engine.
“The CT1257 features a special material composition designed to prevent exactly that, making it a robust and durable belt that transmits power reliably. It can also handle the high load requirements in this vehicle with ease,” he added.
