Eddie Burns bags ‘Best Driver Award’ for Midland Tyres

Eddie Burns, the Cork depot manager for Midland Tyre Services, has won the ‘Best Driver Award’ for the UK and Ireland in the Beyond Awards, in conjunction with Samsara.

This global competition utilises artificial intelligence (AI) technology fitted to vehicles to rate driver performance behind the wheel. Previous winners include drivers from DHL and American Airlines.

By using Samsara vehicle telematics and AI dash cams, Midland Tyres set a new standard of safety enabled by driver safety scores and individualised reporting. The company uses this data to inform its coaching program that encourages safer habits among drivers.

Eddie Burns maintained an impressive driver safety score of 99 in the last year and continues to aim for 100.

Burns motivates his entire team to achieve their own perfect driver safety scores through in-person training. Midland Tyre’s average driver safety score is currently at 96.

According to Samsara, Midland Tyres also reduced road accidents by 54 per cent in two years using AI dash cams, which helps them renegotiate insurance premiums to keep costs low.
