Top Tyres Wexford celebrates 40 years in business

Top Tyres based in Ardcavan, Co. Wexford is celebrating 40 years in business and recently hosted a celebration event to mark the occasion.

The business was the idea of the late John Joe O’Leary, and he got together with Ger Doran in 1983 to become an all vehicle full product tyre specialist for Wexford and surrounding areas. The business has grown dramatically over the years and is now one of the largest independent tyre dealers in the country.

John Joe’s son John Jnr. has carried on the partnership playing a key and active role in the business working along with Ger.

The business is now well known and respected by motorists and the whole community in Ardcavan and the Wexford area. An extensive stock of tyres carried locally, modern equipment and experienced and well trained staff means its reputation for car tyre supply and repair is unrivalled in their locality.

Top Tyres has had a long association with both Bridgestone and Continental Tyres (Semperit in the early days) and these two brands have been central to their business over the 40 years. It is a member of the First Stop network of independent tyre dealers and also has a strong business in batteries and wipers.

The success of the business has included some other key players who have contributed significantly on a daily basis, mostly notably John Hearne, Ronan Furlong and Mick Doran. Ger Doran also acknowledges the supportive role played by his late wife Catherine over many years.

As a result of its hard work and customer centric approach to business, Top Tyres has also developed a significant customer base with road hauliers, motor dealers, farmers and agricultural contractors in their area over the decades. Many local business rely on their expertise and support to keep their fleets moving and productive.

Top Tyres has always been part of its local community with sponsorships in many areas of sport and community activity. Recently it participated in the health and safety week at Danone’s Wexford factory, checking tyres and providing tyre information.

To celebrate its 40th anniversary, Top Tyres hosted a special event for key partners who supported the business over the past four decades. The day included a historic tour of Wexford taking in Johnstown Castle, Hook Head and Vinegar Hill.

In the evening the celebrations switched to O’Brien’s pub in Glenbrien (Proprietor: Ger Doran), Co. Wexford. Live entertainment including music and magic entertained the guests which included industry representatives, friends of the business and family members of John O’Leary, Ger, Ronan and John Hearne.

On the night John Hearne on behalf of Top Tyres thanked all present for their partnership and support over 40 years.

Colm Conyngham of Bridgestone Ireland replying on behalf of the tyre trade said that “all tyres are fitted locally, and the tyre industry needs strong professional businesses like Top Tyres to be the service provider, to do this for 40 continuous years is a remarkable achievement”.
