Alexander Dennis adds electric bus production to head office

Alexander Dennis has confirmed plans to expand its Larbert, Falkirk head office into a manufacturing site that will focus on the production of the new Enviro400EV bus this summer.

The facility will assemble the next generation body on the new Alexander Dennis battery electric chassis, following a successful pilot programme to build Enviro400FCEV hydrogen fuel cell buses at the site.

The Larbert expansion, which will convert existing warehouse space into production lines, supports the company’s more than 690 manufacturing jobs in Scotland.

It also expands Alexander Dennis’s UK manufacturing footprint from two to three production sites, to meet increased demand to decarbonise public transport.

The Enviro400EV double decker that will be assembled at Larbert has been designed to move large numbers of people on busy urban corridors and interurban expresses with a total capacity of up to 96 passengers and an operational range of up to 260 miles on a single charge.

The Alexander Dennis head office remains at Larbert with recent renovation work to equip the site with more office space to become a flexible environment that brings together key business teams under hybrid working arrangements.

Alexander Dennis has been a leader in the introduction of zero-emission mobility in the UK and Ireland since 2016 with the BYD-ADL partnership, with close to 1,500 zero-emission vehicles delivered to date.
