Volkswagen Group Ireland staff raise over €20k for Irish Cancer Society

Staff from Volkswagen Group Ireland helped raise more than €20,000 for The Irish Cancer Society last week by taking part in Daffodil Day.

Employees from Volkswagen Group Ireland and Volkswagen Financial Services volunteered their time to support the Irish Cancer Society’s annual fundraising event.

The team, consisting of sales, marketing and administrative staff from VGIE’s Liffey Valley headquarters, came together to collect donations from shoppers at Liffey Valley Shopping Centre on 24th March.

Their dedication resulted in the collection of over €10,000 in donations, a fundraising figure that was matched by Volkswagen Group Ireland and Volkswagen Financial Services, bringing the total raised to more than €20,000.

The impressive tally is testament to the generosity of the Irish public as well as the commitment of Volkswagen Group Ireland staff to their 2023 charity partner.

Commenting on the achievement, Volkswagen Group Ireland managing director, Carla Wentzel, said: “I am incredibly proud of our staff members who came together to raise such a significant amount for the Irish Cancer Society.

“Cancer affects so many families in Ireland, and it is heartening to see our employees making a difference in their own way.

“Their commitment and enthusiasm to help this important charity is a reflection of Volkswagen Group Ireland’s core values, and we look forward to continuing to support important causes in the future.”

At the start of the year, VGIE staff voted the Irish Cancer Society as their charity partner for 2023 with employees keen to support a charity that helps so many people in Ireland.

The Irish Cancer Society is Ireland’s leading cancer charity, providing support and services to those affected by cancer and their families.

The money raised by Volkswagen Group Ireland will go directly towards the vital work of The Irish Cancer Society, including funding research, providing support services, and raising awareness about cancer prevention and early detection.

Daffodil Day is the Irish Cancer Society’s annual fundraiser and one of Ireland’s largest and most successful charity events. The event sees teams of volunteers sell daffodil flowers, badges and other merchandise, with proceeds going towards cancer research and support services for those affected by cancer.

The first Daffodil Day was held in Ireland in 1988 and quickly became a national fundraising initiative.

Staff at Volkswagen Group Ireland held a staff bake-off fundraiser yesterday as part of their ongoing commitment to the Irish Cancer Society. And, with such a strong start to their 2023 fundraising campaign, they are on course to break last year’s charity fundraising record.
