ITIA and NTDA launch new REACT roadside training course

The safety of commercial tyre technicians working at the roadside has always been a cause for concern; technicians can be called out at any hour, in all weather conditions, to work on a vehicle often mere yards away from speeding traffic.

In a joint initiative with the National Tyre Distributors Association (NTDA) in the UK, the ITIA (Irish Tyre Industry Association) has launched the REACT training scheme here in Ireland.

A dual licence qualifies technicians to work in both jurisdictions and is valid for five years.

Who is this course for?
The course is suitable for anyone who attends breakdown situations on motorways, dual carriageways and trunk roads and is aimed at truck and light vehicle technicians working on the roadside.

The course is run over one day and includes both theory and practical demonstration. All participants then take a written exam to pass the programme.

An industry accreditation is awarded which will offer peace of mind to employers and customers that the technician is aware of safe practices when working on roadside breakdowns.

Participants also receive a copy of the ITIA – Service Vehicle and Safe Work Practices/Risk Assessments Guide and Vehicle Walkaround Checklist.
