EU agrees deal to ban new combustion engine vans by 2035
The European Parliament and EU member countries have reached a deal to ban the sale of new petrol and diesel vans and cars by 2035.
The ban is part of the EU’s climate change package dubbed ‘Fit for 55’, which aims to reduce climate-damaging emissions by 55 per cent by 2030 – when compared to 1990 levels – and reach climate neutrality by 2050.
The ban will prohibit the sale of new cars and vans powered by gasoline or diesel in the 27-nation bloc.
While there’s no plans for a driving ban on ICE vehicles, it is hoped all of these vehicles would eventually be replaced with electric vehicles.
