Volkswagen equips ID. Buzz with Continental tyres

Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles is fitting its new ID. Buzz van with premium tyres from Continental. The new EV will roll on EcoContact 6 Q summer tyres – supplied directly by Continental in sizes 19 and 20 inches.

The ID Buzz is the first fully-electric vehicle from Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles. Ideally-suited to the ID Buzz, Continental claims its EcoContact 6 Q tyre offers “outstanding energy efficiency, service life, braking performance and handling”.

The tread profile constantly adapts to the road surface to ensure a longer tyre life, and the specially-developed rubber compound minimises friction to keep rolling resistance to a minimum.

And thanks to modified blocks, sipes and lateral grooves, the tyre is optimised from a noise point of view.

The EcoContact 6 Q for the ID. Buzz also comes with ContiSeal technology, so that journeys can be continued safely, even if the tyres are punctured in the tread.

A highly elastic protective layer on the inside of the tyre closes in around penetrating objects in just a fraction of a second and reliably seals a puncture even when the object has been removed from the tread (e.g. through the rotation of the tyre).

Holes with diameters of up to five millimetres can be sealed securely – which means around 80 per cent of punctures can be fixed immediately. No spare tyre is needed, which saves on weight and can help to increase range.

As one of Volkswagen’s longest-standing development partners, Continental played a crucial role in the design and development of the ID. Buzz from the outset, and contributed additional technology and components, from the software and central computer architecture, to the brakes and sophisticated thermal management system (e.g. for cooling the batteries).

Continental also offers a wide range of additional summer, winter and all-season tyres – including test winners such as the AllSeasonContact – for the VW ID. Buzz, as part of its tyre replacement business.
