Maintaining a constant Flow with febi bilstein’s AdBlue

The Euro emissions standards have been set for over a decade now, and since September 2015, it has become mandatory for each recently registered vehicle to meet the Euro 6 emission regulations; demanding oxides of nitrogen (NOx) emissions be cut by more than 50 per cent compared to previous levels, decreasing the pollutants released by diesel exhaust gases and their environmental impact. A growing number of models are being fitted with a “selective catalyst reduction” (SCR); a part of the process which converts oxides of nitrogen (NOx) into harmless water and nitrogen.

AdBlue is the commercial name for this aqueous urea solution which is stored in a tank situated in the vehicle. The fluid is dosed into the hot exhaust gases using a pump and an injector, situated just before the SCR. The fluid enters the exhaust stream, and a reaction occurs by means of thermolysis and hydrolysis within the SCR, where the nitrogen oxides are in turn converted to harmless nitrogen and water.

febi bilstein supplies AdBlue fluid for a variety of Commercial Vehicles under the part number 46329. With a urea concentration of 32.5 per cent (obtained from substance-free urea) and demineralised water, you can be sure of the high-quality, providing optimum performance and efficiency.

Not only is it important to ensure AdBlue fluid is used, but it is integral that an AdBlue fuel filler cap is fitted and safely secured to avoid leakages and complete loss of fuel. For this reason, febi not only provide AdBlue fluid, but AdBlue Fuel Filler Caps with Keys too;

Tip for refilling AdBlue: The vehicle has a low fluid level warning system fitted; this is to tell the driver they need to top up their AdBlue® tank. Failure to adhere to the multiple visual and audible warnings as the fluid is used will result in the vehicle being unable to be restarted after it has run out. The car will not start until the fluid tank is topped up again and may need resetting with diagnostic equipment.

febi recommends drivers keep an eye on AdBlue levels and immediately fill up once a dashboard warning appears.

The febi product brand is part of the bilstein group, which also incorporates the strong SWAG and Blue Print brands. Further information can be found at
