O’Donovan Waste Disposal, with roots in County Cork, was one of the big winners at the UK’s prestigious 2019 Motor Transport Awards. The progressive company won the ‘Urban Delivery Operator of the Year’ award.
Held in London, the glitzy event again recognised the great and the good of the commercial vehicle, transport and logistics sectors.
Having left his native County Cork in Ireland with ambitions of starting a business, O’Donovan (WasteDisposal) Ltd was started in its earliest form by Joe O’Donovan in 1959. Tragedy struck when Joe diedsuddenly at the age of 51, leaving his young family to take control of the business. All four siblings workedtogether to keep the company going.
Today, with Jacqueline as the Managing Director, O’Donovan is one of London’s leading independent waste management companies employing over 160 staff and offering skip hire and roll on/off bins, waste management, tipper and grab lorry services, recycled aggregates and screening, roadsweepers, wheelie bins and demolition services.
O’Donovan (Waste Disposal) Ltd. has greener initiatives and environmental performance in the foreground of our business planning. The company realised that the benefits of sustainability applies, not only to their company but to the environment and to their clients.
They are passionate about our industry and have taken several initiatives, driven by commitment and support from the top management and staff, to reduce their carbon emissions and introduce better environmental practices, contributing to O’Donovan’s becoming a greener business. This is reflected also in their FORS Gold Standard achievement and our award for ‘Green business Innovators’ presented by Middlesex University.
Their operation is growing continuously and in 2016, it expanded into a brand new waste processing facility in Wembley to expand on their four depots in North London. With its 24/7 licence, this site enabled them to handle more materials than ever before.
Sustainability is paramount for O’Donovan (Waste Disposal) Ltd. and they carefully look to protect what they currently have and also for their future generations. Their key focus for Alperton continues to enable us to recycle as much as possible into recoverable and reusable materials and remove reliance on dwindling virgin materials.
