DAF Trucks has made available a new, factory-fitted camera and sensor system to help improve road safety, especially for vulnerable road users.
Developed in partnership with Brigade Electronics, the system is installed by DAF Trucks to the manufacturer’s stringent engineering quality standards. Equipment comprises a nearside-mounted camera with in-cab monitor, nearside proximity sensors and an audible left-turn warning signal for when the left-turn indicator is activated. An optional rear-mounted reversing camera is also offered.
The installation made its debut at this year’s CV Show in Birmingham and was fitted to a DAF Construction CF 450 FAD 8×4 tipper.
Available on DAF CF and XF tractors and rigids, it is anticipated to comply with the Direct Vision Standard (DVS)’s HGV Safe System Permit requirements for camera and sensor systems timetabled for implementation in October 2020.
DAF Trucks has listened to an increasing number of operators who have asked the market-leader to develop a system specifically for DAF vehicles which will alert drivers to the close proximity of vulnerable road users and which will assist them with manoeuvring.
“By providing factory-fitted equipment,” said DAF Trucks Marketing Manager, Phil Moon, “operators can be confident that the installation is in accordance with the manufacturer’s own robust quality standards, consistent across all DAF CF and XF rigids and tractors, and covered by the vehicle’s standard two-year warranty package.”
