Continental unveils new construction tyre
Transport to and on construction sites places heavy demands on machinery and tyres. Robustness and traction are the main characteristics crucial in construction tyre applications. However, traction-optimised tread designs with wide grooves lead to greater levels of wear at a faster pace as well as increased fuel consumption on paved roads. For this reason, Continental’s Research and Development department in Hanover designed the all-new Conti CrossTrac commercial tyre range to overcome these challenges and to lead the way in the construction segment.
“The new Conti CrossTrac tyres combine the best of both worlds: they prove to be robust and reliable workhorses on construction sites and offer maximum mileage, excellent durability and a smooth performance on the road,” explains Constantin Batsch, Vice President Truck Tyres Replacement EMEA at Continental.
To fulfill these demanding requirements and to provide the ultimate balance between on and off-road performance, the new Conti CrossTrac tyres have been developed with an innovative tread design for excellent on and off-road wear performance. By further combining different state-of-the-art compounds for the cap and base, the new Conti CrossTrac allows conflicting application requirements to be balanced out. While the base compound is optimised for low rolling resistance and high mileage, the cap compound is designed for optimum traction, outstanding robustness and impressive chip, chunk and cut resistance.
The result is that the driver can manage any surface with ease. Even under hard braking manoeuvres and changes of direction, Conti CrossTrac tyres never lose traction. Thanks to their robustness, the new Conti CrossTrac tyres simply last longer. Once they are worn down, they can be given a second or even third life at the same premium performance levels – with Continental’s hot and cold retreading solutions. These solutions, as well as the extremely robust casings lie at the heart of the ContiLifeCycle concept, enabling multiple service lives without compromising on either safety or performance. Hot-retreaded tyres marketed under the brand ContiRe are manufactured at Continental’s retreading factory, while cold retreading with pre-cured treads marketed under the brand ContiTread is performed by a network of selected partners. Flexible and transparent casing management completes the ContiLifeCycle concept. Continental offers end-to-end casing management services, which range from inspection and storage, to purchase and transport, and – if necessary – even final disposal. Exhausting the full potential of a Continental tyre through retreading and efficient casing management not only helps optimise the cost per mile and reduce the total cost of operation, but reusing the casing also helps save energy and raw materials as well.
*All major sizes will be available as an intelligent tyre, already fitted with tyre sensors when shipped from the factory. The intelligent sensors constantly measure temperature and air pressure from inside the tyre and provide data to Continental’s tyre monitoring system ContiPressureCheck™ to be displayed on the vehicles dashboard or on a web portal to oversee the entire fleet.
