Gnewt Cargo, the UK’s largest all-electric fleet of urban delivery vehicles, has been acquired by national operator Menzies Distribution.
The London-based company runs a fleet of over 100 electric vehicles in the city, and Menzies said the acquisition will give the operator a “stronger, cleaner presence in the London market”.
Greg Michael, Menzies Managing Director, said, “As a holder of the Carbon Trust Standard since 2009, Menzies Distribution has long been focused on its environmental responsibilities.”
“Acquiring Gnewt was an exciting opportunity for us to advance our sustainability agenda whilst growing our offer to the parcel market. Everyone recognises that goods need to be moved in and around congested city centres. Gnewt Cargo shows it can be done successfully whilst minimising environmental impacts.”
It is believed that the fleet will continue to operate under the Gnewt Cargo name.
Menzies has also entered a five-year contract to hire 110 new Iveco trucks from Ryder, to expand its existing fleet of vehicles across the UK. The company currently operates the distribution contract for WH Smith, to supply 1,100 stores across England, Scotland and Wales.
