Fast approaching CV Show 2017 – First Preview

Another Commercial Vehicle Show is fast approaching with the CV sector in a stronger position. And our team from TransportParts.ie and the Auto Trade Journal will be there to report on the CV Show for you.

Mike Hawes, Chief Executive, SMMT, told us: “This year’s CV Show is more relevant than ever and we are particularly pleased to see several major HGV manufacturers return to the show. Keen interest across the commercial vehicle market is, however, creating a boom for additional goods and services. Whether that’s trailers, parts and components, telematics, driver assistance systems, fleet management software or specialist conversions, the CV Show is the perfect shop window for them all and a great opportunity for anyone in the transport or logistics industry to do business. I look forward to seeing you there.”

Here are a selection of exhibitors and what they will be showing this year.

MAN will be using the show for the UK public debut of its new van, the TGE – alongside its range of heavy trucks.

“The TGE will fit seamlessly into the MAN family and will mean there is an MAN vehicle to meet every application across the commercial transport market,” said Martin Pickering, MAN Truck and Bus Marketing Communications Manager.

The MAN TGE will fill the requirement for a light commercial vehicle with a gross weight rating between 3 tonnes and 5.5 tonnes and will be ideal for everyday light transport tasks in the transport and haulage sector.

Truckman displays latest hardtops and accessories Stand 4G50

Pick-up accessory specialist Truckman will be showing the latest additions to its range of secure hardtops and accessories at the Show.

On its stand, the West-Midlands-based company will feature the newly launched range of the high capacity Truckman Classic hardtop and the solid sided cab high Truckman RS.

Another of Truckman’s commercial hardtops on display will be the high-capacity, all-round gull wing side access Truckman Utility.

Popular with field-based engineers and utility customers, the Utility can be kitted out to operate in off-road situations, such as carrying out railway track maintenance, and gives technicians unrivalled organised storage and access to tools and equipment.

Completing the display of vehicles on the stand will be an SHB-owned Toyota Hilux Invincible fitted with the best-selling hardtop from Truckman’s luxury range, the Truckman Grand, which comes with remote central locking.

TOTAL UK addresses business needs
Stand 4C10

As well as showing its full range of lubricant products, including RUBIA engine oils, coolants, AdBlue and more, TOTAL UK will be promoting its range of added value services, such as ANAC and Visio Stock.

TOTAL ANAC – a driveline diagnostic system – has made a big difference for customers who have used the system, benefiting from TOTAL’s 30+ years’ experience and over 4,000,000 diagnostic checks. The company claims a saving up to £10 for every £1 spent on oil analysis, but more importantly says it helps fleets by reducing their operating and maintenance costs, improving reliability and adding efficiency.

At the event, TOTAL will also be talking to businesses about stock management. Its Automated Stock Management System works by installing a permanent measuring device in a customer’s lubricant storage tank and the ASMS automatically monitors the level of lubricant in the tanks via a GPRS communication system and alerts TOTAL when levels are critically low.

This reduces the risk of stock-outs and unplanned downtime. Remote monitoring also reduces administration costs and errors associated with manual stock check and re-ordering process, along with reduced risks of tank over spills with the subsequent cost of clean-up and lost product.

Brigade Electronics to launch 3G cameras Stand 4J90

Brigade Electronics will be launching a new 3G enabled digital recording system at the Show.

The new mobile digital recording system (MDR) allows operators to remotely access footage and other vehicle information such as speed and location in real time. The standard MDR has been one of Brigade’s most sought-after products in recent years but now the company can offer a fully managed and hosted 3G solution.

The new service allows operators remote access and live streaming of footage from up to eight vehicle mounted cameras. Immediate access to data is invaluable; in the event of an incident, to refute claims, asses which party is culpable and reassure drivers in the event of an emergency.

The managed service includes a 3G SIM card and access to Brigade’s hosted server. By hosting the service, Brigade is able to identify any SIM or network issues through remote diagnostics, saving the customer valuable time and resource. Customers have the choice to access footage via the Brigade dashboard or by downloading the app on their phones.

Brigade will also be releasing their improved Sidescan. Following feedback of driver annoyance, the buzzer now silences when there is no danger present and resumes once motion is detected. A NEW optional extra is the Sidescan OSD Module which provides the driver with an on-screen display of the detection area.

Jaama, the fleet industry asset management software system provider, will be showing new functionality introduced to its multi award-winning web-based vehicle, driver and workshop management solution, Key2, at the Show.

The company exhibited at the Show for the first time last year and such was the interest from fleet decision-makers, transport operators, senior managers and engineers in its Key2 technology that it is returning in 2017.

As an Associate member of the Fleet Operator Recognition Scheme (FORS) and a partner to the Freight Transport Association’s Van Excellence scheme, Jaama is firmly focused on helping fleets achieve compliance best practice through implementation of Key2.

Jaama invests more than £2 million per year on software development that keeps Key2 at the cutting edge of management solutions and that has continued with the introduction of vehicle inspection sheets within the Workshop touchscreen module.

The touchscreen application allows technicians to view their work allocation and record their time against each vehicle work item.

In addition, a technician is able to complete a vehicle service/inspection checklist, which is fully customisable. Each check on the list has three options – completed, requires attention or not applicable – and if a technician’s work on a vehicle service or inspection is interrupted the sophisticated technology will return to the appropriate page on resumption. On completion, checklist sheets are stored against the Key2 Workshop job sheet.

A further development by Jaama is its new ‘My Vehicle App’, which allows Key2 to be operated remotely by drivers and operators.

Tread Reader devices from Sigmavision
Stand 4F65

Sigmavision is to promote its TreadReader technology to the commercial sector when it exhibits at The Commercial Vehicle Show next month. It says that TreadReader “addresses the shortcomings of traditional dip gauges and other spot-measurement or laser-line devices currently available.” Each product in the range, which includes mobile and fixed workshop options, creates a 3D scanned image showing a 50mm band across the full width of the tyre. Sigmavision adds that its scans are reliable and accurate even on wet and dirty tyres.

With mobile inspection and repair services now widespread alongside traditional workshop servicing, commercial vehicle service providers and vehicle manufacturers are improving tyre management to eradicate as much unplanned downtime or emergency maintenance as possible. To achieve this accurate measurement of tyre wear and tread depth is critical, and needs to be carried out swiftly. The recorded data should be captured electronically and presented to the fleet operator in a meaningful way; ideally integrated into an electronic vehicle health check report. The data can then be used for planned or immediate tyre replacements, or corrective action, such as tyre rotation or wheel realignment.

Available as a hand held scanner, or drive over ramp, TreadReader technology aims to offer a full solution for workshops and mobile technicians. The hand held scanner is fully portable, operated via a TreadReader app, and is suited to mobile servicing, or workshops where space is more limited. For larger workshops, where volumes are greater and a fully automated process is required, the drive over ramp can be more suitable.

Andrew Pryce, managing director of Sigmavision, commented: “TreadReader is the tyre measurement technology that operators for all fleets, whether cars, LCV or HGV, should be expecting from their service providers. Whilst the service providers who make use of the TreadReader technology will soon find themselves with a compelling and competitive advantage when looking to win new clients and service contracts.”

Alfatronix shows new USB charging options
Stand 4D36

With WiFi increasingly available on public transport, passenger accessible charging facilities are becoming more and more popular, and Alfatronix is one of the leading names in the market with over 35 years’ experience.

The Alfatronix design incorporates automatic voltage adjustment to compensate for the level of charge in the device battery, thus maximising the charger performance. On buses, the user may not be on board for very long, so they want as much power input as possible in a short time. The Alfatronix system ensures that the output is always configured to safely and quickly charge any device attached.

Most commercially available USB connectors are only specified for 1,500 mating cycles. In a public environment, this would offer no more than a year or two of service, so the Alfatronix units are type-tested to 10,000 mating cycles.

The high impact materials, shape, installation method and profile of its USB chargers is designed to withstand every thump and knock likely to occur in a busy transport environment, with only deliberate vandalism likely to cause damage.

By definition, the USB connector is exposed, but even if this is deliberately fused by a metal foreign body, the clever electronics will not only shut the unit down, but continue to monitor and start up again automatically when the fault is removed. Even if the unit accidentally gets wet, the unit will detect the fault and shut down.
