Warren to head-up Schaeffler’s Australian aftermarket operation

A new life Down Under awaits Schaeffler (UK) Ltd employee Warren Barnett.

For Warren – Operations Director of the company’s Automotive Aftermarket Division – is moving to Australia to take on a new role for the global technology giant.

The 46-year-old is to head-up the continent’s aftermarket operation which means he and his family will be setting off for a new life in Sydney next month.

His new role will see him being responsible for Schaeffler’s original equipment (OE) LuK clutch, INA tensioner and FAG wheel bearing brands, as well as the Ruville range of components.

He said: “The opportunity to establish the four brands in the Australian aftermarket is one that I could not refuse. The biggest challenge will be how to get the product to market via the quickest and most competitive route and to retain and grow sales, but I am confident that it is one that can be achieved.

“The Australian market is very different from the UK’s, for one thing 85 percent of the car parc is automatic transmission. However now that all of the local vehicle manufacturing has ended, European vehicle platforms will now be sold creating a fantastic opportunity for double clutch technology.”

Warren’s new role means a new way of life awaits his wife Katrina and children Harriet (12) and George (9).

He said: “When the opportunity arose, Katrina was a bit apprehensive, but after discussing the opportunity with friends and colleagues through Social Media she has really embraced it and is looking forward to the move. Harriet is fine with it as long as she can continue horse riding and George is happy as long as he can play Rugby and football, although I have had to tell him that he will have to start calling it soccer!

“The move will give me a wider experience from a work perspective, but will also give the whole family the opportunity to experience a new way of life.”

Warren has been employed in the UK automotive industry for nearly 30 years, starting out working in the dealer network with Charles Clark Rover and Appleyards before moving into to the automotive aftermarket with Monroe in 1997 and then onto Delco Remy and Sherbrook before joining Schaeffler in December 2005.

Schaeffler (UK) Ltd’s Aftermarket Division Managing Director Nigel Morgan said: “It is a great opportunity for Warren and his family to experience a new culture and I would like to thank him for all his hard work here in the UK. However, his departure means that I am now tasked with finding his replacement which I am looking to do as quickly as is feasible.”
