Voith Turbo shows heavy truck technology
Voith Turbo, a leading European bus transmissions specialist, will display its unique technology for heavy trucks at the CV Show (Stand 3H96).
Voith’s VIAB, also known as the Turbo Retarder Clutch (TRC), played a key part in clinching the Vehicle Manufacturer of the Year Award 2015 for Mercedes-Benz at the inaugural “The Heavies” event – an awards ceremony specifically designed to recognise excellence within the heavy haulage and abnormal load movement industry.
The judges described the VIAB, fitted to the Mercedes-Benz Arocs SLT, as a true game changer.
The Voith component is a completely new powerful start-up and braking system and is a standard fit on both Mercedes-Benz Arocs and Actros SLT tractors over 120 tonnes.
The VIAB provides powerful start-up and safe braking with no wear on loads up to 250 tonnes.
“It eliminates stress and tension behind the wheel when dealing with sensitive start-up and braking behaviour,” said John Domigan, Voith Turbo’s UK sales and marketing manager.
“The VIAB combines the advantages of hydrodynamics with the high efficiencies of mechanical driveline and features a powerful primary retarder.”
The component was developed with Mercedes-Benz and took several years to refine the mechanical, electronic, and software elements to make it class-leading.
