Haulage operators avail of cheap motor tax

Motor Tax offices around the country are being inundated with haulage operators looking to”tax” their artics for €330 following a ruling the court of Appeal.

The Court of Appeal has ruled that an articulated truck’s trailer was not a separate taxable unit and that the truck should therefore be taxed at the €330 general rate haulage tractor rate.

It is understood that the Government will move to close the loophole in the New Year in the Motor Vehicle Duties and Licences Bill 2015.
