Michelin solutions the right fit for National Express
National Express has renewed its relationship with tyre supplier Michelin, agreeing a five-year tyre management deal to cover its UK fleet of nearly 2,000 vehicles.
The Effitires price-per-mile system covers a mix of single and double-decker buses, coaches and smaller shuttle buses operating around Heathrow airport. A fleet of vehicles ‘airside’ at Gatwick airport assisting with passenger transportation will also continue to sport Michelin rubber.
About 85% of the National Express bus fleet is managed from its depots in the West Midlands and central bus garage in Dundee. The coach fleet and airside operations are based across three separate locations in the south east.
“National Express has had a relationship with Michelin for eight years, so following a competitive tender, we are delighted that Michelin has proved to be the leading tyre solution provider,” said Roy Brewer, Category Manager for National Express.
“The price-per-mile structure provides a focus on getting the maximum performance out of every casing and ensures the safe operation of our fleet. It’s a model that works well.”
In addition to fitting coach and bus tyres, Michelin solutions will carry out fleet-wide tyre safety inspections and develop a shared operational plan to boost efficiency, safety and regulatory compliance.
National Express coaches predominantly run on Michelin X MultiWay 3D tyres, while its buses mainly sport Michelin X InCity rubber.
