Schmitz Cargobull innovates improved multi-function floor
Schmitz Cargobull has manufactured a new multi-function floor using an innovative welding process developed in the UK.
The MF6 Multi-Function Floor has been designed to reduce trailer weight – therefore improving payload – but also advances in grip, life expectancy and quieter operation.
Manufactured from full-length extruded aluminium planks, improved heat treatment give the MF6 a harder, more durable finish, five per cent lighter than traditional aluminium flooring. The planks are welded on the underside using a new form of friction welding process called stir welding. Developed in the UK, this process does not use a donor metal, but uses a lip on the edge of the parent extrusion, eliminating weld defects.
The floor also incorporates longitudinal grooves with cross-wise knurling, and is TÜV-certified to provide the optimum friction coefficient for securing palletised goods and rollcages.
With a noise level of less than 60db during loading and unloading, the floor exceeds the PIEK noise requirements.
Paul Avery, Managing Director, Schmitz Cargobull UK, says, “Flooring is often overlooked when it comes to trailer innovation, but we are delighted to offer something that provides the same level of innovation you’d expect to find on any other component of a Schmitz Cargobull trailer. In simple terms, the floor makes a trailer quieter, lighter, more secure, easier to clean and longer-lasting – all of which also means a higher residual value.”
The MF6 Multi-Function Floor is now incorporated as standard on all Schmitz S.KO Cool refrigerated trailers.
