Revenue set to target hauliers in tax compliance probe

The Irish Road Haulage Association (IRHA) has been informed by the Revenue Commissioners that it will be shortly implementing a nationwide tax compliance project , which will focus specifically on the trade sectors that deal in or use mineral oil.

During the course of this year, as well as selecting and auditing traders who deal in mineral oil, Revenue intends to select and audit a number of traders in the transport sector who use mineral oil in the course of their business.

The objective of the project is to identify and address tax non-compliance while also providing assurance to tax compliant traders. The proposed audits will focus on a traders compliance across the full spectrum of tax and duty obligations, with specific emphasis on compliance with their obligations, under mineral oil legislation, where appropriate.

Case selection will be based on an analysis of Revenue’s full range of tax data, including data from the Return of Oil Movements (ROM1) submitted monthly by all licensed traders in mineral oil.
