Volvo shortlisted for environmental award for hybrid bus
It was announced recently in London that Volvo Bus has been shortlisted as one of the finalists for the Environmental Award.
Being shortlisted for the Environmental Award recognises that Volvo Bus and the 7900 electric hybrid single deck makes a contribution to further improving environmental friendliness. It also highlights the wider impact of the vehicle in the areas that it operates while also recognising the best onboard environment for passengers.
Launched last year, Volvo’s 7900 hybrid single deck bus brings greener transportation to urban areas. The vehicle, which is currently operating with Lothian Buses in Edinburgh and First in Essex and Berkshire reduces harmful emissions and is described by Volvo as cleaner form of transport.
“We are delighted to be shortlisted for this Environmental Award,” said UK and Ireland Managing Director, Nick Page. “It recognises the development work we put in with the 7900 and the impact that the vehicles are having on local communities.
“The 7900 electric hybrid is the latest development in our hybrid strategy and uses charging stations at the end of the route for extended operation in electric-only mode. Projects are underway in Stockholm and Hamburg in 2014 and we hope to have a project in the UK in 2016.”
The annual UK Bus Awards recognise, reward and inspire those in and around the transport industry. They are open to industry suppliers, operators and authorities either separately or in conjunction with one another.
