Court scuppers Nissan’s NY taxi deal

In a remarkable twist, Nissan has just lost its lucrative high profile New York Taxi deal, which was part of the ‘Taxi of Tomorrow’ initiative.

The deal was stuck down by a Manhattan State Supreme Court Justice this week. In his court ruling, he made void the compulsory purchase of the Nissan NV200, as was originally put in place by the Taxi and Limousine Commission under the ‘Taxi of Tomorrow’ vision. He said that the commission had overstepped its authority
And it is even more dramatic as it happened just under three weeks before the official 28 October launch. This was the second time a judge has blocked the initiative. Back in May another judge ruled that the initiative failed to comply with city regulations allowing taxi operators to buy hybrid vehicles.

A Nissan spokesman expressed disappointed in the court’s decision but said the company was considering its options, but it would still sell the vehicle to interested fleet owners.
