VOSA simplifies HGV test

VOSA has completed an investigation into simplifying heavy vehicle test procedures. The aim is to reduce the burden on both operators and VOSA without compromising road safety or the environment.

Having concluded the investigation and after consulting with manufacturers and trade bodies VOSA says it will be simplifying the test by allowing examiners the discretion not to jack steered axles or conduct a metered smoke test.

VOSA says it will monitor and analyse the introduction of these changes, which are scheduled from October 1.

The heavy vehicle inspection manuals will be updated when these changes are introduced.
